Meet the Authors!
Dr. Rex ForehandDr. Rex Forehand holds the title of University Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Vermont. He is the co-author of Parenting the Strong Willed Child, as well as multiple other best-selling books for therapists and parents. In addition to being recognized with numerous awards reflecting his devotion to clinical work, research, and teaching on parenting and child behavior, Rex is also a proud parent and grandparent. Rex and his wife (who he met when they were kindergarten age!) enjoy all things Southeastern Conference (SEC), including University of Alabama where they both went to college and University of Georgia where Rex worked for many years.

Dr. Deborah J. JonesDr. Deborah Jones is Associate Chair and Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is coauthor of Integrating Digital Tools into Children’s Mental Health Care and the most recent expanded fourth edition of Parenting the Strong Willed Child. Deborah was raised in Pittsburgh, PA and earned her B.S. at University of Pittsburgh, then MA at Loyola University and PhD at University of University of Georgia where Rex taught and Nick received his Ph.D. also. Deborah’s work has been recognized by multiple research grants and awards for teaching and outreach to parents and children. She enjoys time with her two and four-legged family members taking walks, visiting parks, and playing games.

Dr. Nicholas LongDr. Nicholas Long, a Canadian by birth, is now a recently retired Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. He was Director of Pediatric Psychology for 35 years. During this time, he founded and directed the Center for Effective Parenting, a leading online resource for professionals and parents. In addition to his many administrative roles, Nick is also an effective clinician and has published books (including co-authoring all four editions of Parenting the Strong-Willed Child) and professional articles pertaining to parenting. Nick and his wife are fortunate as they spend substantial time with their two sons, their wives, and their children, all of whom live nearby.
